Heritage House and Mary’s Playhouse Tours New Feature

The Heritage House and Mary’s Playhouse will be open for tours on Sunday, October 2, from 3pm-5pm. Located at 303 South O’Connor, the Recorded Texas Historic Landmark will also include a display of items spun and created by Ameda Holmes during the October tour.

Ameda Holmes, an Art, Design, and Fiber Artist, will be on hand to demonstrate the use of a small cottage spinning wheel which was recently donated to the Heritage Society. “I have used small rope-jacks. It is a useful skill to be able to take string and turn it into a rope to make a tree swing, tie a package, or make a lead for a horse.”

Fiber seems to be part of her DNA. Her multi-great grandfather founded Plymouth Cordage Company during the age of the clipper ships. His company supplied cordage of all weights to the New England shipping industry. She was raised on stories of man-thick ship anchor lines being laid on the long rope-walks that required the skilled work of many men.
